JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Field Coordinator

Organizational Level: Staff


BASIC FUNCTIONS

Administrative

  • To develop a listing of potential venues where the Platicas model could be implemented.
  • To meet with managers, supervisors of potential venues introducing the project and building their interest in HIV prevention.
  • To identify and recruit potential comadres (lay workers).
  • To establish a network of potential referrals including CTR services and other social welfare services traditionally used by Latina women.
  • To establish a working relationship with the CORE Center ( Chicago Cook County Hospital).

Networking

  • To participate in community events such as Health Fairs disseminating HIV prevention information and promoting the recruitment of new project participants.
  • To participate in community coalition meetings engaging providers in disseminating information about the model and learning from the culturally competent aspects of the model.
  • Host periodic comadres meetings to foster a peer relationship, monitor and reinforce the intervention activities. These will include proper conversations with clients, follow up on special referrals and debrief stressful contacts.

 

Program Implementation :

  • Train lay workers in the implementation of the comadres model.
  • To utilize the curricular material as the main guide to develop the lay worker skills.
  • To train lay workers in HIV Basics.
  • To conduct project marketing activities.
  • To maintain a monitoring and quality assurance system that records the lay worker’s amount of contacts and other outcomes as required by the project management.
  • To promote linkage of sero-positive women to a variety of supportive services.

Training and Information Dissemination :

  • Work as a team with the Supervisor in the development of educational/information materials to be distributed by comadres in their corresponding venues or social networks.
  • To educate organization staff on the progress of the project.
  • To conduct a group training with partners of re-entry individuals at the CORE Center or other organization working with a similar population.

Public Relations :

  • Public presentations introducing the project.
  • To join local committees working in HIV and Latinos.

Support:

Attend administrative meetings and supervisory sessions.

Monthly and quarterly reports as required by the funding source.

Other duties as required by the program operation.

 

Reports to: Director of Programs.

Supervises : Volunteers.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED : B.A. Education, Community Health, Communication or Associate degree in a related field plus two years of community-based experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bi-lingual, bi-cultural English/Spanish
  • Experience in community-based organizations.
  • Familiarity with community resources
  • Computer basics
  • Driver’s license. Willing to drive moderate distances.

 

SALARY: Commensurate with experience.

 

POSITION STATUS: Full Time for the duration of the IDPH contract.
